What a real pre-purchase inspection covers in Florida

Florida used cars hide flood history, baked tires, and 'it was just detailed' leaks. Inspect before you wire.

Flood, rust, and the details that photos skip

Central Florida flooding is not Midwest salt rust. It is silt in odd places, swollen carpets, oxidized connectors, and musty evaporators. A PPI looks under the spare, in the trunk wells, and at the belts of under-car wiring.

A fresh detail and new air freshener is a tell. We still look.

Scan data and the test drive

Pending codes tell on a seller who cleared the light in the parking lot. Freeze-frame data shows the conditions of the last failure. If we cannot test-drive, that goes in the report as a limit — not a pass.

Tires: date codes in the sun. Brakes: measured, not guessed. Leaks: cold vs. hot. You get a go, a caution with a dollar range, or a walk-away.

How to book it on a listing

Put the inspection in the offer: 'pending a PPI at my mechanic's schedule.' We will meet at the seller's house, a dealer, or a public lot. Do not send the money first.
